With basic 9-1-1 (or 911 VoIP), an emergency 9-1-1 call is routed to a third-party call center, automatically or manually forwarding the call to the emergency response center. The hosted telephony service user is responsible for keeping their physical location information (civic address) up to date, especially when traveling. Failure to do so (for example, if you cannot speak during the call) may result in the call center operator assuming you are at your last recorded address, potentially sending emergency services to the wrong location.
With enhanced 9-1-1 (traditional 9-1-1 or E911), emergency 9-1-1 calls made from a Sogetel-hosted phone line are routed directly to the emergency response center closest to the device's physical location.
